Inverse Everything – No Friction

Chicago 2012 – Workshop at ECAL

Chicago wasted is the result of a type design workshop with David Bennewith at ECAL.

The assignment was to create a new version of Chicago, a famous dot matrix typeface drawn in 1969 by François Robert.

I intended to create an italic version using the same matrix as the original. The result being so constrained, it seemed to reflect the prohibition problematic of the roaring twenties, era that inspired the original Chicago.
